While on the island of Lanai, I was struck by all the Cook Pine trees. They looked like no other Pine tree I had seen, certainly not in the Pacific Northwest. They are very simple trees with thick needles that look woven. I decided to paint one of them and use that for my holiday card this year. There is a lovely simplicity that suggests peace, stillness and winter solstice. I love that. Winter is a time of moving inward and coming home to what we love and cherish.
