Trees of Hawaii

Just returned from 8 days in Lanai. What a lovely experience we had... I didn't do much painting, but had my artist's eyes focused on the beautiful surroundings at The Lodge where we stayed. On the day that I did paint, I focused on two trees just outside of our lanai. The trees in this area are extraordinary. These were ones within view of where I was seated. The most amazing ones were the Banyan trees which I did not get a chance to render.
The top one is done on Yupo paper... quite a different effect.

When a painting finds a home...

It is always a sweet surprise when I sell a painting. The call comes and I am humbled by the request to own one of my creative endeavors. I love that these paintings find a home somewhere, a place where they can be viewed again and again with new eyes.
When I purchase a piece of art, I find just the right place in my home that honors its presence. Art is so very personal. It has the ability to touch the viewer and enhance a space in so many different ways.
We all need to own at least one piece of original art.

"The artist is the person who makes life more interesting or beautiful, more understandable or mysterious or probably in the best sense , more wonderful." -George Bellows

Yupo Paper

I have discovered Yupo paper.... Yupo is a synthetic paper vs the cotton paper I normally use.
Playing with paint and form on this paper is really helping me to loosen up. Yupo is a very slippery, non-absorbent surface.
You can see how colors and shapes flow into one another.... watercolor is a medium that takes full advantage of the properties of water...one of the reasons I love it so much.
Watch for some Yupo paintings in my next posts.
We will see what watercolor and yupo do when coming face to face in my art room!!!!

IMAGINE! A YOGA ART CALENDAR 2011

Wow... my new art calendar is out and most of them sold. I had 160 printed and will probably need to order a few more.
This year I have combined botanicals as well as "sweet poses" to inspire.
Paintings from the new calendar are currently showing at 3 OMS YOGA studio in Bellingham.
They will be there until the end of the year.
Drop by when a class is just finishing to get in to see them. Also you can pick up a calendar there or order from me.

The Three Sisters

I call this little painting The Three Sisters.
I found these red peppers at the Saturday Farmer's Market...
The shapes these peppers can morph into is fun and at times laughable.
I am enchanted with these "organic jewels" that are not afraid to be different and do not conform to their symmetrical relatives we see in the supermarkets. Viva la difference.

WELCOME TO MY ART BLOG

This is my newest endeavor.
Having an art blog is a bit daunting as it will require me to share my art and talk about the process. I want to grow as an artist and push my edges to see where it takes me.
I will be posting paintings I am currently working on as well as art events I am taking part in. If I have my work up somewhere I will be sure to let you know!
I invite any comments and feedback. By the way all paintings are for sale.

Thanks for visiting my site.
